The Mage and the Magpie

The cover of Austin J. Bailey's The Mage and the Magpie features a girl crossing from a desert scene in reds and oranges to a more blue scene with a wrought-iron fence.

Austin J. Bailey’s The Mage and the Magpie–a review.

A nice little fantasy with interesting characters and some great description.  I thoroughly enjoyed it up until close to the end.

Then I got a bit weirded out by the bizarre religious rituals and the suggestion that thirteen is old enough to be a mother–of any kind.

Still, a fun read, that traditional fantasy lovers would probably like.

Rather read a middle grade with bits of magic, but a more contemporary world? One that’s amazing all the way to the end? Check out Flora and Ulysses
